The protection of basic rights of women echoed at the world women day function, organized at Khalsa University today. The resource person during the seminar Dr. Pushpinder Walia, Principal, BBK DAV College for Women, stressed on the need to make joint efforts to work for the women emancipation as the women are still fighting for their fundamental rights.

Dr. Walia She said the legal awareness was must for the women to assert their rights as she called that the women rights are basically the human rights. She narrated the history of the women rights since 1910 when first time the women came out in the streets in USA to demand similarity in salaries of women and men. “It is an irony that even after a century since the first recorded protest for women rights, we are still fighting for the same rights’’, said she.

She was earlier welcomed by Khalsa University Registrar Dr. JS Dhillon who said that the function was organized to create awareness in the society for the protection of women rights. He said women are still vulnerable section of the society which is highly deplorable and steps were required to be taken to ensure that the half of the population of the world get their due respect and honour. He however said that the women are achieving great heights in the world and are venturing out in the arena which were generally controlled by the men.

JS Dhillon said that deliberations would go long way to pave the way for the chalking out societal and legal steps to protect women rights and giving them their due. Dr Harpreet Kaur gave the vote of thanks. Other present during the talk included DS Rataul.
