The deliberations were today held on the issue of Academic Performance Indicators for the promotion of University and College teachers during the day-long seminar on API Score and Career Advancement Scheme at Khalsa University here today. Dr.SS Chahal, Vice Chancellor, Khalsa University in his inaugural address highlighted the issues pertaining to academic performance indicators for promotion of teachers in the university under Career Advancement Scheme as per the guidelines of UGC.

He emphasized the need, relevance and modifications required in the system to make it more effective and acceptable at all levels of education system. Dr. Chahal expressed that present API needs amendments for judicious, logical and objective evaluation of teachers at different levels. He also reiterated that the weightage given to different criteria under the present API score system needs a relook.

The scoring system needs to be developed looking into the different objectives in different educational institutions’’, said he. The experts from Guru Nanak Dev University including Dr. NS Tung, KU Dean Academics Dr.Raghbir Singh, Registrar Dr. JS Dhillon and others participated and shared their perceptions on API. They stressed that lacunas in the implementation of API score need to be plugged out at gave concrete suggestions to make it more practical and comprehensive.

Dr.Dhillon emphasized that overall selection procedure should incorporate transparent, objective and credible methodology of analysis of the teacher in different relevant dimensions. Dr.Raghbir Singh later thanked the participants and experts.
