Mesmerizing Performance by Mexican Artists at Khalsa University

The mesmerizing performance by Mexican artists, led by Espirtu Maxicano group, today marked 6th Amritsar International Folk Festival at Khalsa University here today. A fusion of Mexican and Punjabi folklore music and dance took the heritage campus by storm as the audience witnessed a rare and magical performance.

The festival organized by the varsity in collaboration with Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC) exhibited the fusion of Mexican and Punjabi folk dance and music as artists from Latin country and Punjab came together on the stage to give gripping performances. Wearing their traditional, colourful dresses, the Mexican took to the stage with full enthusiasm and won the heart with the foot-tapping dances and melodious singing.

Apart from the music, the theatrical presentation by Espirtu, touched the nerves as they gave folk presentations of their native country through the meticulously choreographed orchestration. They took the stage to storm when they intermingled with the local students and performed Punjabi folklore together. The varsity’s Bhangra and Gidda team meanwhile was appreciated too during the program.

Chief Guest at the occasion varsity’s pro-chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and vice chancellor Dr.SS Chahal earlier welcomed the guest artists. Chhina described the festival as an opportunity of two countries’ artists to forge international peace and friendship through art and understand different cultures.

Dr. Chahal said such inter-cultural festival provide opportunity for students to interact and perform together for better understanding between diverse cultures. KU Registrar Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon earlier welcomed the guests and artists saying that they were proud to host the festival.

PCPC head Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina said it was the 6th festival in the series and their Council promotes international cooperation through the exchange of artists. He said Mexican artists group was headed by Arturo Javier Salazar and included Álvarez Ana Patricia Martínez Alarcón, Celia Luna Soriano, Esther Aguila Arriola, Maria Eugenia Castelán Quiroz, Gabriela Espíritu Muñoz, Laura Teresa Martínez Alarcón, Jorge Martín Cisneros Hernández, Luis Manuel López Gálvez, Alfredo Campos Lovera, Luis Alonso Pineda Regalado and Sergio Ortega Antaas its members. KU Director Cultural Affairs, Dr. Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, Director Research Dr. RK Dhawan, Dean Agriculture Dr. Gursharan Singh, Principal Khalsa College of Law Dr. Jaspal Singh, Controller of Examination Dr. Amarpal Singh, Principal Sp Dhillon, Principal Nirmal Singh Bhangu, DS Rataul, Deputy Director, PR, were also present during the program
